The Confession at Saint Helena

Somewhere the sea waves had found a quiet peace,

The tired wind had even forgotten its howl fierce,

The great sun even shone without its warm rays,

There he was waiting for the end of his glory days.

Staring ahead he reminisced about the Alps, Egypt, Moscow

and softly whispered: "God why didn't I die so?

why you cursed me in exile, rejected painfully deep.

Go away desolated after countless feats?

I crossed so many years surrounded by my eagles best!

The song of the victory still resounds here in my chest!

The Sun of Austerlitz was shining over our lives gambled

We passed the Rhine, Vistula, Neva our enemies trembled

For 20 years long we fought with no think of surrender,

The Great Army, alien to fear,  I was its commander,

The mountain peaks in front of us stood as a guiding stars

And there we climbed with dirty hands but with pure hearts

I created my destiny with fast mind and sharp look

My pride did not fade until the ground beneath shoocked

My armies invaded lands and conquered nations

But my spirit occupied the humans imaginations

And where have they sent the Emperor in glory?

Give him an island forgotten for kingdom with no sorry?

If the blood spread in the name of the past greatness,

could sink into cruel darkness replaced by faithlessness?

No! My life would be a symbol of ambition supreme

I was poisoned by hostiles and all will remember their sin

This exile will nourish people' dream and fantasy

A dying warrior, history will honor my legacy."

And the waves silently paid homage to the standing titan,

He stood still looking lonely but not frightened

The calm wind sent him away with a farewell breeze,

The sun looked at him one last time and ceased.
