Pixie Dust

"... faith, trust and pixie dust!"

~"Peter Pan", J.M. Barrie

Once upon a time I knew that I could fly.

No big deal, honestly, it wasn’t hard to do.

Think happy thoughts and pixie dust would lift you to the sky.

No wings required, planes or birds or anything but you.

And gravity was simply mass dividing weight –

Not anything I couldn’t fight off just like that.

Some random word from physics lesson, equals 9.8

(Not really; honestly, that drove my teachers mad.)

And Neverland, the stars – the second to the right,

And straight ahead till morning, my most recent address.

This is when I grew up, that was the biggest fright –

I was out of pixie dust, that caused a lot of stress.

I try to keep believing, sometimes it seems a waste.

“Of course you can fly, kiddo, you just need pixie dust.”

And Neverland, it’s way too far, the real world I’ve faced –

“It’s not the pixies, kiddo, I’m short on faith and trust.”
