All of us are storytellers,
whether to ourselves or our fellows.
Narratives we live and breathe,
some to reveal, some to deceive.
As Shakespeare once wisely said,
we are all actors and the world's a stage!
We act on what we think, feel and believe.
Before, after and during - a story we conceive!
With heroes, villains, good and evil,
with the gray, mundane and trivial,
we weave in words the stories
of the defeated and the victorious!
Stories to please, narratives to tease,
we spin them with remarkable ease!
We are the heroes of our own plays,
inventing adventure in the dullest of days!
Often we speak of broken hearts,
shattered in a million parts -
a story so incredibly common
to each and every man and woman.
A story lies behind our very minds,
it's so easy to tell the signs.
We think in terms of "now" and "then",
of pleasure and of pain.
Every conversation is but an exchange
of stories in a wide or narrow range.
"I did so-and-so.", "What did you do?", "Where did you go? "
Everything has happened a certain time ago.
Politics, history and mythology alike
are their types of narratives in kind.
Philosophy, science and religion, too
are alive with stories false and true.
What we tell ourselves to sleep at night.,
why we hold our lovers tight,
how we deal with pain and fright,
how we will ourselves to fight...
Stories all about!
