Not had to come to this earth
Not been suckled for the world

Been lost in my swaddling hand

A span more of wood,
But a cubit of goof earth

Three verses from the cantor
One clang from the bell


Да не се бях раждал…

 

По-добре щеше да ми е

и по-добре е щяло да бъде -
нито да се бях раждал,

нито раснал!

Защо бях създаден?

Не трябваше да идвам на тази Земя,

нито да суча майчината кърма!

 

Ако бях умрял след три дни,

все още повит с пелени,

щях да се нуждая от малък ковчег,

Ковчег, за предпочитане, от дърво.

Един аршин хубава пръст,

две думи от свещеника,

едно кратко опело,

Камбанен звън!
